Presentation

Imagine yourself setting off along the customs' path that closely follows the celebrated pink granite coastline of northern Britanny.
This really is the great outdoors with a backdrop of the swelling sea that sparkles from emerald green to ultramarine. A salty breath of sea air, redolent of mystery. A chaotic gallery of rock sculptures hewn by the repeated onslaughts of dashing tides.
Yet the granite is softened by pink and orange hues, and there are beaches of white and ocre sand, pretty fishing ports with little islets emerging at low tide, chapels dedicated to Breton saints, tree-sheltered aisles and ancient menhirs. If you like the scenery, you'll surely love the elegant hotels, fine food and a certain sense of well-being we have in mind for you.

You'll love

  • the weirdly and wonderfully chaotic scenery along the Sentier des Douaniers (old Customs Path)
  • the broad beaches of fine sand
  • the seemingly countless small fishing ports
  • the charming hotels and justly-renowned eating places

Program : The pink granite coastline of Brittany

  • D1 Reception in Paimpol

Your walk on the Pink Granite Coast starts in the village of Paimpol.

You will stroll through the historic quarter before having dinner at the marina. Paimpol was built on its rich maritime history. From the 17th to the 20th century, sailors left the Britanny coast for Terre Neuve and Iceland to fish for cod. Today, the town centre remains from this period, with its large shipowners' houses.

Dinner and night in 3 star hotel facing the marina.

  • D2 Walk from Paimpol to Lézardrieux

21,8 km stage with total uphill 270 metres. Around 6hrs30.
This first, fairly long walk brings you straight away a lovely variety of scenery and light.
Paimpol's fishing port, shipowners' houses and old shopping streets guard intact the memory of three centuries when the boats went out to Newfoundland and Iceland in search of the big catch. If you make your way around the Anse ('bay') de Paimpol you discover a rich rural and maritime heritage...small fishing ports such as Porz Aven, chapels, calvaries and the Tour de Kerroc'h (landmark).
From the Point of Arcouest, the Isle of Bréhat and the nearby islets of pink granite may be seen.

Night and breakfast in 2 star hotel of charm and character.

  • D3 Transfer from Lézardrieux to Le Sillon de Talbert, walk to Tréguier

20 km stage with total uphill 160 metres. About 6hrs.
The walk begins at Le sillon de Talbert, a 3 kilometre sand cordon that curves across the water ending in a peninsula in the middle of the sea. This is an important seabird sanctuary. Most of the walk follows the coast and you'll see frequent beaches with rocks suitable for that time-old activity of fishing-on-foot at low tide.
The second part goes along Le Jaudy, a river that flows down from deep inland to the sea. The bed of the river is employed as breeding ground for fish and oysters. Along the way you'll see the rural side of the region, noting dolmen, chapels and the characteristic cultivation of cauliflowers and artichokes...

Dinner in gourmet restaurant and night in 3 star hotel.
Day 3 : restaurant is closed Sunday and Monday (50 € discount / pers)

  • D4 Transfer from Tréguier to Plougrescant - walk from Plougrescant to Port-Blanc

17,8 km stage with total uphill 110metres. About 5hrs.
After a short transfer, the walk begins at Plougrescant. First you stroll along the banks of the Guindy towards the fine rock formations of which La Pointe du Château and the site of the Gouffre near the little house called Castel Meur, are generally regarded as the most spectacular. The itinerary continues across quiet beaches and coves to the lovely village of Buguelès, its islets, little peninsulas, and tide-driven mills...After crossing the bay of Pellinec, the walk concludes in Port Blanc, facing the beach watched over by veritable fortresses of orange granite on which stands, like a sentinel, an oratory.

Night and dinner in family hotel facing the sea.

  • D5 Walk from Port Blanc to Perros-Guirec

15,5km stage with total uphill 175 metres. About 5hrs.
After leaving the sheltered bay of Port- Blanc and the "Ile aux Femmes", your steps lead you first along long beaches of white sand then bars of pebbles till you get to the calm seaside resort of Trévou Tréguignec. Tiny sheltered ports are dotted along the coastline towards Nantouar. Then the path veers into the countryside where you encounter the village of Louannec and surrounding hamlets along narrow roads and shaded paths. The outing ends before the port and marina of Perros. A supplementary amble takes you into the historical centre of Perros Guirec with its surprising Romanesque church.

Night and breakfast at 3 star hotel opposite the port of Perros-Guirec.

  • D6 Transfer from Perros to Porz Rolland - Walk from Perros-Guirec to Trébeurden

19,7km stage (+2km if you add Ile Renote). Total uphill 110metres. Around 6hrs.
The stage today is longer and as many sights are worth spending some time on, a short taxi transfer will take you directly to Ploumanac, famous for its huge rocks of spectacular colours and forms.
The walk continues through Trégastel and the Isle of Renote along the superb Côte de Granit Rose. Pleasant small beaches of fine sand may persuade you to loaf a little...
In the second part of the day, the path to Kergantuil is a bit like a trip back in time with its paths along tree-sheltered pathways and a remarkably well-preserved dolmen.

Dinner in gourmet restaurant and night in 3 star hotel.

  • D7 From Trébeurden to Lannion

19,2 km stage, total uphill 355 metres. Around 5hrs.
This last walk concludes your journey all along the Côte de Granit Rose. It's a day of discovery with interesting historical sites, vestiges dating from the age of heyday of commercial sailing and contrasting natural treasures: the marshes of Quellen, the Trebeurden peninsula, Milliau Isle, cliffs and broad beaches.
Then near the end, the towpath along the meandering river of Le Léguer brings you back to the old town of Lannion with its pretty half-timbered houses.

Night and breakfast in the hotel in the historical town centre of Lannion.

  • D8 Departure

    Departure after breakfast.

Option : transfer by taxi to the hotel in Paimpol

Global note
4.9
  • Great trip, well organised. Good money for value.
