This cycling holiday along the roads of the "Ardéchoise" came about thanks to the existence of Europe's biggest Cyclotourism Rally, the Ardèchoise, that has taken place in late spring every year since June 1992.
We propose to give you the opportunity to follow the mythic route at your own pace and in optimal conditions. The accommodation we have selected for you reflects the reputation for hospitality and good local food that the Ardèche département enjoys.
Starting from the banks of the mighty Rhône river with its celebrated hillside vineyards, you cycle up through the little-known valleys of the Ardèche to enter the lovely Regional Nature Park known simply as the 'Monts de l'Ardèche'. Imagine - grandiose plateaux as far as the eye can see, extinct yet easily recognised volcanoes, tumbling wild rivers, all this and more...just for you!
Drinking in the sources of the Loire will do you a power of good!

You'll love

  • the exclusive Ardèchoise itinerary
  • a route through delightful countryside, entirely signposted
  • your accommodation, selected for cyclists' particular needs and comfort
  • pedalling along at the foot of Mont Gerbier de Jonc and the Mont Mézenc
  • having surefire electric bike hire and GPS (satnav) coordinates

Program : On the roads of the Ardéchoise

  • D1 Arrival in Tournon

Reception at your hotel in Tournon late afternoon. Do take the time to visit this pleasant town nestling between the hillside vineyards and the banks of the Rhône.
Dinner and night at the 3 star hotel.

  • D2 From Tournon to Lamastre (le Crestet)

    Distance 59 km.
    Altitude changes: + 1180m, - 755m - Duration about 4hrs30

Your holiday begins as you follow the contours of the superb Gorges of the Doux river. After going through the village of Saint Félicien, the road rises and you begin to appreciate the beauty of the numerous valleys below you. From the Col de Buisson (pass) you descend easily towards Lamastre and the warm welcome that awaits you at your guesthouse. ('chambre d'hôtes.')

Dinner and night in 2 star hotel.

  • D3 From Lamastre to Aizac

    Distance 62,5km. Altitude changes: + 1120m, - 890m. - Duration about 4hrs30

This morning you go along the Valley of La Sumène with varied scenery: forest, pasture and rivers. The Col de Mézilhac is the great ascension of the day, in a lofty atmosphere that reminds us of the finest mountain passes in France! Enjoy the long descent as you contemplate the timeless scenery bearing but few traces of human intervention.

    Dinner and night in guesthouse.

  • D4 Day 4 From Aizac to Lanarce

    Distance 63km. Altitude changes: + 1515m, - 900m. - Duration about 5hrs

This is the most strenuous day of your holiday, but the scenery you discover will more than compensate your efforts. You go over the Col de la Croix Bauzon, a regular climb and therefore relatively easy. Little by little you enter the upper slopes of the Ardèche, the vegetation changes the air gets a tad thinner, the rivers disappear in the valley bottoms and the high plateaux come into view.

At the end of the day you'll appreciate the view from your accomodation and a hearty dinner based on local produce.

Dinner and night in a 3 star hotel with pool.

  • D5 From Lanarce to Ste Eulalie

    Distance 47km.
    Altitude changes: + 630m, - 735m. - Duration about 4hrs

A more relaxed and contemplative day. Along the way you discover the Abbey of Mazan, a truly historical treasure steeped in legend. The road, with only modest gradients, brings you to the Lake of Issarles in the hollow of a volcanic crater, where swimming is allowed. Progressively you come to the charming village of Sagnes-et-Goudoulet, in wild countryside that gives an impression of being cut off from the rest of the world. In the evening you'll appreciate the calm of your guesthouse before enjoying a meal of local produce.

Dinner and night in a 2 star hotel.

  • D6 From Ste Eulalie to Saint Agrève

    Distance 68km
    Altitude changes: + 1100 m - 1290 m - Duration about 5hrs30

The morning is a great time to drink in the calm and serenity of the place. Here the cohabitation of Man and a sometimes hostile Nature has forged an authentic lifestyle rooted in tradition and culture. On your bike, then, and it's off towards Le Mont Gerbier de Jonc, source of the Loire river. During a short passage through the Haute Loire (neighbouring département), you come across a small family ski resort called Les Estables tucked in at the foot of Le Mont Mézenc. A fine cornice route takes you then to Saint Martin de Valamas before your arrival in the small town of Saint Agrève (shops).

Dinner and night in 2 star hotel.

  • D7 From Saint Agrève to Tournon

    Distance 80km. Altitude changes + 890 m - 1800 m. - Duration about 5hrs30

Today you leave the plateau of the Ardèche by an itinerary overlooking the Valley of the Taillarès. The wonderful narrow road follows the contours of these volcanic hills to offer you an exceptional panoramic view. En route you go through the village of Lalouvesc, proud possessor of the surprising XIX century Basilica of Saint-Régis.
