A cycling trip along the Rhône river. All down the valley you'll enjoy pedalling at your own rhythm through a rich and varied built heritage, and the broad Côte du Rhône vineyards . Saunter along the left bank, roam along the right - you're sure to appreciate the diversity of environment in this mighty fluvial empire.

You'll love

  • popping in to see a winegrower to taste a range of Hermitage wines
  • the sweet visit if ever there was to the Valrhôna Museum of Chocolate!
  • the route, specially conceived with cycletourists in mind
  • arriving at last in the characteristically Provençal streets of Montélimar

Program : The ViaRhona: from Vienne to Montélimar

  • D1 Arrival in Vienne late afternoon

Venerable city dating from Roman times: museum, striking historical monuments.

Dinner and night in 3 star hotel with pool.

  • D2 From Vienne to Andancette

47 km with just 50 metres total uphill - Level 2/5 - Duration about 4hrs

Vineyards of the elegant "Côtes-Rôties", planted in remarkable terraces on the steep slopes. Here in the calm of the banks of the river Rhône, you'll enjoy the verdant sun-soaked countryside.

Dinner and night in a charming "chambre d'hôtes".

  • D3 From Andancette to Tournon sur Rhône

    27 km with 150m total uphill - Level 2/5 - Duration about 2hrs30

A ride to explore the rich heritage of the left and right banks of the Rhône. Just the pace you need to enjoy these Gallo-Roman towns steeped in history, whilst all around the vineyards bask on their celebrated inclines.

Dinner and night in a 3 star hotel in the centre of Tournon.

  • D4 Ride around Tournon sur Rhône

    25 km with total uphill 200m - Level 3/5 - Duration about 2hrs30
Pedal along through the vineyards on pretty, narrow country roads. Stop off at a winery and taste the winegrower's range of wines from the Hermitage. Then a visit to Valrhôna, chocolate maker par excellence, makes a tasty end to a delicious day!

Dinner and night in a 3 star hotel in the centre of Tournon.

  • D5 From Tournon sur Rhône to Loriol

    59 km with total uphill 200m - Level 3/5 - Duration about 5hrs

The majestic river steers you towards Valence. Already, drifting Mediterranean scents suggest the nearness of Provence. On the left bank (the Drôme department - on the right bank it's the Ardèche), the plain is broader and you pass through a multitude of fruit trees: peach, cherry, apricot and more...

Dinner and night in 3 star hotel with pool.

  • D6 From Loriol to Montélimar

    41 km with total uphill 100m - Level 2/5 - Duration about 3hrs

Now on the right bank (Ardèche Department), you enter the Vivarais and gain a little height over the river Rhône. Through small yet undeniably charming villages you make your way towards the broad Provençal avenues of Montélimar.

After eating out, night and breakfast in charming hotel in the heart of Montélimar.
