Presentation

The Vercors is a multiple territory, with sublime landscapes. High place of the Resistance, it is a mysterious massif that reveals itself step by step. A land of renowned sportsmen, it is also a meeting place for nature lovers and lovers of wide open spaces, who come to recharge their batteries in the heart of its Nature Reserve.
We propose you to discover all this diversity, during a hiking trip on the Vercors from North to South. In the footsteps of the wolves, under the feathers of the vultures, to meet its inhabitants and their stories.

Program : Walking across the Vercors

  • D1 Arrival in Autrans

    Welcome to the Vercors : Autrans is a village nestled in the heart of the Vercors mountains. As soon as you arrive, you are immersed in its welcoming and relaxing atmosphere. Take advantage of your free time to wander around and get a breath of fresh air!

  • D2 Walking from Autrans to Lans-en-Vercors

    15,5 km with + 710m – 740m altitude change

    From the center of the village, you walk through the mountain pastures, where cows and sheep graze. Then the path rises, under the impulse of a regular and shaded ascent in direction of the Crêtes de la Molière. At the top, you can contemplate a magnificent view of the neighboring massifs, Chartreuse, Belledonne and the Mont-Blanc in good weather!
    A gentle descent leads you to the charming village of Lans en Vercors which you can see below.

  • D3 Walking from Lans-en-Vercors to Villard-de-Lans

    15,5km with + 800m  -800m or 8,5km with + 110m -110m (short version) altitude change

    Today, you leave Lans en Vercors by going up through the forest. Little by little, the view becomes clearer and the balcony path allows you to admire the valley and its soft contours. If your legs allow it, we advise you to climb up to the Pic Saint Michel (1966m) for a breathtaking view of Grenoble and the Alpine Massifs.

    We also propose a shorter version in the valley, in case of bad weather.

     

    Dinner is on your own. Night and breakfast in a 3* hotel in the center of Villard-de-Lans.


     

  • D4 Walking from Villard-de-Lans to Corrençon-en-Vercors

    12 km with + 550m  -1130m (with gondola lift) or 11,4km with + 450m -450m (without gondola lift) altitude change

    Every day during the summer school holidays, as well as every weekend in June and September, you can take a free shuttle bus between Villard de Lans and the Côte 2000 resort, then a cable car that drops you off at an altitude of 1,720 metres. A path leads you to Lac de Moucherolle, perched at 1,940 metres. If you wish, you can continue on to the Col des 2 Sœurs (2,056 metres) to enjoy a superb panorama of the Belledonne massif, the Ecrins and Mont Blanc. This hiking trail gradually descends through cool woodland before reaching Corrençon en Vercors.

    When the shuttle bus and cable car are not running or in bad weather, we recommend taking the Bois Barbu trail. You may even catch a glimpse of the witches' hut!

  • D5 From Corrençon-en-Vercors to the Chapelle-en-Vercors

    18,6km with +670m -915m altitude change 

    To you the great spaces and the wild nature, you enter the Natural Reserve of the High Plateaux of Vercors. Savor this privileged moment, listen, smell, observe... You are in the country of wolves, golden eagles, chamois... Halfway along the trail, the Prairie de Darbounouse opens the panorama to contemplate the Vercors chain and its highest peak: The Grand Veymont.  Then you switch to a parallel valley, via a very beautiful descent to the Chapelle en Vercors.

  • D6 From the Chapelle-en-Vercors to the Col de la Machine

    15,8km with + 700m -560m altitude change

    Today, direction the col de la Machine and its circus, protected in classified site. At the exit of the Chapelle en Vercors, you immerse yourself in the forest with the impression of being alone in the world... After crossing a beautiful meadow, you arrive at the Carri pass, a place well known for Nordic skiing. You then meander on the different tracks before joining the plain of Lente. Your arrival will be at the Cirque de Combe Laval lookout and its breathtaking depths which dominate the Royannais country.

  • D7 Transfert back in Autrans

    After your breakfast, a cab will drive you to Autrans via a superb road through the gorges of the Bourne and the Gorges du Méaudrais. About 1h15 of driving.


    This is the end of your hiking trip in the heart of the Vercors.

Some of the stages of the tour are proposed without evening meals. At these stages, there are many and varied possibilities for eating out.

By car

From Grenoble, in less than 1 hour:
D531 from Sassenage to Lans-en-Vercors via Engins, then D106 from Lans-en-Vercors to Autrans-Méaudre-en-Vercors: approximately 10 km

From Lyon, in less than 2 hours:
A48 motorway, Veurey exit, direction Villard-de-Lans, 120 km.

By plane

then connecting to Lans-en-Vercors and Autrans-Méaudre from Grenoble bus station (BUS CARS REGION and/or TRANSALTITUDE).

Grenoble train station. then regular CARS REGION buses from Grenoble to Villard de Lans via Engins and Lans en Vercors (line T64) with the possibility of a connection to Autrans-Méaudre at Lans en Vercors / tourist office (Line T66).

    It was very emotional to discover the flora of the Vercors and I was very moved by the beautiful ‘presence’ of the mountain. It's vibrant, it's very powerful and varied, the way the mountain makes us feel the space between it and us: through sound or silence, through its thousand ways of bringing us (or not) the breath of the wind, through the changing temperature, the clouds we sometimes pass through, revealing it when we could already sense it, the way it absorbs the shifting shadows, what it hides inside: the echoing caves, the water finding its way through, the flowers or clogs clinging to it. These 100 km have given me so much in terms of feelings, emotions, light and colours. Don't forget to bring your binoculars!
